Kurdistan and the Rojava Revolution

Turkish American Researcher and legal scholar, Kaan Ocbe, describes the ongoing democratic experiment taking place in Rojava (Western Kurdistan/Northern Syria) and explains the history of the Kurdish liberation movement with a focus on organizing principles and lessons to draw on for radical organizers in the rest of the world. Covers the origin and history of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and its affiliate organizations, overview of the libertarian philosophy guiding the movement and the robust Kurdish women’s movement which has captured the attention of progressives around the world. Material for the presentation was gathered through observation and in depth, first person interviews conducted with members of the movement in preparation for a book to be published by Princeton University Press in the Fall of 2016.
