The Beehive Collective is an artist/activist group that makes enormous and beautiful mural-like posters to tell the stories of social movements around the world. Their newest work is called “Mesoamerica Resiste!” and examines resistance to neoliberal development in Mesoamerica. It is a truly massive work, and yet it requires a nose to the page to see everything going on. The Beehive's work is meant to spark discussions through the graphic stories that they tell, and that is what I hope can happen in this workshop. With the poster projected in front of us, I will share what I know about the meaning of different scenes in the poster, but I will also open up discussion for interpretation by the audience. Together we can become more adept story-tellers using this fantastic tool of popular education.
