Self Preservation Through Self Publishing Workshop Pt. 1

In a world that actively seeks to silence marginalized voices, creating print and digital publications that preserve personal narratives is incredibly revolutionary and radical. “Self Preservation Through Self Publishing” is a workshop that will teach audiences multiple affordable and accessible techniques to publish their written and visual work online and in print. The workshop will educate audience members about zines (self-published mini-magazines) and the importance of the “Story of Self”, outlining the process of telling genuine narratives about our experiences and struggles. Through making print + online publications as a means of illustrating the “Story of Self”, attendees will learn the importance of using visual and written work to amplify their stories. Instructors India Ferguson and Aurora Lazaro, founders of Kram Magazine, an independent print + digital publication exploring the art, music, and cultures of South Florida’s underground scenes, will empower audiences to reclaim their narratives and share them with their communities, and ultimately, the world.
